Our Story

Meet Matthew

Owner, Columbia Mountain Dog Ranch & Resort.

Dogs are my everything. I’ve spent my life outdoors with them: fishing, hunting, training, hiking, and boating. My happiest moments have always included a dog by my side, and I believe every dog deserves adventure, companionship, and plenty of love.

That belief guides how I operate Columbia Mountain Dog Ranch & Resort. Here, time outside means more than a quick bathroom break. Meaningful play, outdoor exploration, and personal attention are part of every day, balanced with plenty of rest and tailored to your dog’s personality, energy, and needs. My goal is to make the ranch a home away from home where your dog feels safe, loved, and excited to return.

I’m a graduate of Boston College and William & Mary Law School, and I’ve spent the past decade helping train dogs, including gun dogs. Special education is another passion of mine. I’ve worked as an assistant teacher and in group homes, experiences that taught me the importance of patience, connection, and understanding individual needs. Those values also shape the care I bring to the ranch.

For me, the most rewarding part of caring for dogs is the relationship we build. I love getting to know their personalities, helping them learn, and seeing how happy they are when they get to do what they enjoy.

Outside the ranch, you’ll usually find me fishing, hunting, or hiking with my fiancée, Rachel, and our dogs along for the adventure.

My commitment to you is simple: honesty, integrity, and wholehearted devotion to your dog. You’re trusting us with a member of your family, and I’ll care for yours with the same love and attention I give my own.

Sincerely, Matthew EdwardsOwner, Columbia Mountain Dog Ranch & Resort
